what is this called when someone plugs a ethernet cable into the wall and then back into the wall? what is the best way to troubleshoot or narrow down location? in the mdf all the switches were flashing super fast, as well as the IDFs. i unplugged the G-bics to the idfs until the flashing slowed down. i was wondering if there is an easier way. any suggestions would be appreciated

that would create a layer 2 spanning tree loop . Usually if you can get into the switch if you do a show cdp neighbor the switch will see "itself" on multiple ports and those will be the ones you shutdown . If the vlans span multiple switches and a big trunk enviroment then thats when you earn your money tracking that stuff down . Start looking at logs and what the user complaints are etc .. This can take awhile if the vlans span a big trunked network..
