Dear all,
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this query, but here goes anyway.
We are looking at installing 2 x 4507R core swithces. Both units will run 2 x Supervisor engines which will have both GB interfaces connected to each unit (will be run as a GEC bundle).
My query is actually relating to the type of Fibre cable we should connect the two units with. The fibre link that will connect these two units will also be used by a proposed SAN solution we want to implament.
It all seems to point SMF, as this gives the higher bandwidth etc. What is the bandwidth limit on SMF fibre ?
Thanks,
Simon.

Simon,
If you want to interconnect the switches directly then the question is not bandwidth (both MMF and SMF will support 1Gbps) but distance.
See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps872/products_data_sheet09186a008014cb5e.html for distance limitations.

BTW, you might also want to consider cat5 copper cabling to implement your Gigabit links. See the same URL, it mentions the copper based 1000Base-T gbic.

Herbert
