Currently we have a configuration in which a Cisco Catalyst 4006 is connected to a Dell PowerConnect 5212 at the distribution layer, which is inturn connected to a Intel Express 510T at the access layer. The VLAN Database, which should be distributed down the line by the VTP host (the Catalyst), is only showing up on the Dell. The Intel, which has the correct VLAN Domain specified, cannot pickup the VLAN Database (I assume a VTP issue). Does anyone know of any issues between Cisco's trunking protocol and the older model Intel switches (specifically the 510T)?
Please Help! Thanks!

Hi,
I doubt that Intel switches support VTP packets or not. I have gone through the documentaion of Intel switch and it says that it "PASSES" the dot1q packets.
The concept of "distributed vlans" work only on Intel switches, as per my knowledege.
check the documentation :

Most likely, the Intel switches do not support VTP as it is a Cisco proprietary protocol. Once rec'd, it would/should flood it to all ports on the vlan that it was received on. If indeed, the Intel supports VTP, than you may want to check if the trunk link between the Cisco-Intel is up and allowing all vlans and, the vtp domain name is the same (case-sensitive).

Thanks for the help, guys!
I kinda thought that was the case, but I wanted to run it by some other people before I took any more action. We have put in place an alternate solution for the time being until we can put some better network hardware in place. Thanks again!
