Hello,

How big can a VTP Configuration Revision Number get? And what happens after the limit has been reached?

Greetings,

Lorenz

I have found a solution now.

It depends on the Version: for:

Version 1 & 2: 4096
Version 3: 32bit Number (2^32 = 4294967296)

When using Version 1 and 2 it is highly likely to get a revision number higher than 4096. But I still don't know what happens when it reaches 4097.

Thanks anyway,

Lorenz

The VTP revision number is a 32 bit number so you are highly unlikely to ever reach the maximum number and I have never seen a network that has.

It may be that if it does because there is a timestamp with the number it resets but I couldn't say for sure.

"When using Version 1 and 2 it is highly likely to get a revision number higher than 4096."

BTW, "highly likely", don't recall seeing a revision number break 1,000 in a production network.
