Getting Started with VPNs

I'm new to Cisco VPN Solutions and I'm trying to find an appropriate reference or guide aimed at my level. I've got the Cisco CCNA Study Guide and there isn't anything of use in there. Is there an online reference or a Cisco book that would be recommended.

I've worked with Microsoft Windows NT/2000 Solutions using NT PPTP Servers with Proxy Server for basic firewall capabilities. Clients are typically Windows 9x/NT and use the VPN Client configured to dial through a local rate ISP. The users are authenticated on to the NT Domain.

Any guidance would be much appreciated as we have a number of clients looking to implement VPN solutions.

Here is a small task list that may help you out:

You need a good solid understanding of IP addressing basic routing DNS, NAT and access lists. After having that foundation, I would start with this online http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/so/neso/vpn/vpne/vpn21_rg.htm

and there are a whole lot more papers at www.cisco.com worth looking at too.

Then pickup the book “A Technical Guide to IPSec Virtual Private Networks” to get a good grounding in the technology.

You may find this very soon to be published book,

Implementing Cisco VPNs by Adam Quiggle (McGraw Hill),

helpful.
