Memory Loss On PIX515E

Hi, we have a pix 515e which has been in production for a year with 64 meg memory.

We have noticed last week that users coming off this pix were reporting intermittent connectivity problems.

All diagnosis pointed to extremely low values for free memory (as low as 1 meg). This memory was upgraded to 128 meg but memory is still being depleted to about 15-20 meg free memory.

We have not had any new customers added to this pix for 6 months.

Can anyone point me in a direction as to what could be sapping this memory.

Any recommendations would be highly appreciated ...

hi

what version of PIX OS are you running? could you check syslog messages for any unusal connections. could you provide the output of "show xlat count" and "show conn count"

Hi Nadeem,

this pix is running OS 6.3(3). The xlate is showing me 9 in use, 27 most used & the sh conn cmd 21 000 connections.

I am really confused because no new customer has been added & the config is the same since May this year.

What I do notice unusal is that DNS sessions do not go away quickly - they are being held for a long time in the session table (sh conn cmd) ...
