Seeking a Crash Course in Router and Firewalls for a Web Server

I am a web developer who until now has had the luxury of having very knowledgeable network experts to configure the hardware for the web sites that I develop.

I am building an ASP.NET web site and I would like to know what kind of hardware (firewall, router) I will need and how they should be configured.

Initially the load should be small, but I am hoping the site will eventually draw thousands of hits each day, so the solution should be somewhat scaleable.
