For a service provider platform, I'm wondering whether to acquire routers or layer 3 switchs.
The boxes will have the following specifications:
Interfaces:
about 4 x 10GigEth interfaces (no serial/POS links)
Protocols:
IS-IS
BGP, multihoming with full IPv4 and IPv6 internet routes
future deployment of:
Multicast
MPLS L2 and L3 VPNs
MPLS TE
Both ASR 1000 and Catalyst 6000 provide the required throughput, and the Catalyst switches can run routing protocols and MPLS too.
Which are better for these functions ?
Is there geat price difference between the two ?
