Slow response - Duo Authentication for Windows Logon

WD

We are currently testing the 'Duo Authentication for Windows Logon' (64-bit) client version 4.2.2 client in our organisation and finding that it is performing quite poorly.

Specifically, when the user initiates an elevated action on their PC (Window 10 21H2 64-bit), it often takes up to 20 seconds before the Duo authentication window appears on screen.

The machine itself is performing normally - the issue seems to be specific to Duo itself.

Anyone else seeing this issue ?

Check any Antivirus and Firewall in the PC - is this PC domain joined ? is this DNS working as expected ?

is this issue only new PC (Window 10 21H2 64-bit) or other devices working as expected ?

You can enable debug logging for the application: https://help.duo.com/s/article/1083

Then look at the resulting log and use the timestamps to see where the delay lies. If the delay comes while waiting for a response to the preauth request then it could be network connectivity to Duo. If the delay occurs before the Duo credential provider begins Duo auth, it could be something else.

If your DNS was configured incorrectly to the point where it could not resolve your Duo API host, or your firewall was blocking the connection to Duo, then you would never receive the Duo auth prompt and it would proceed to your configured fail mode.

Duo, not DUO.
