Dear All,

I have a two VSMS that contains 20 HDD ,and the customer needs to add about 14 cameras which will reflected on the storage of the server (add 4 HDD on each server) .

so my question now is if I make backup for the running configuration on the VSMS ,add the new four HDD on the server ,then make restore for the backup I get ,Is the old configuration will be working normally or I will have a problem and I must to make the configuration again on the VSOM?.

Also what about the archives that was stored on the servers ,is it will be back after make restore?

Thanks,

Ahmed Ellboudy

Dear Ahmed,

You have two options to extend your MSP with 4 new drives :

1. Add a new DG containing your new 4 drives and configure a new RAID5 VD. You can use this new VD as a seperate repository like /media2 for e.g.

2. Re-create the array from scratch with the new 4 drives included. This means you will need to reinstall the system with the recovery DVD. If you take a backup of your VSMS configuration before rebuild together with the backup of your archives you can resume your system to the point before the rebuild.

Dear Ahmed ,

concerning the archives that are stored on the server ,

if you reinstall the system choose repair not factory ( these are the options when you insert the installation DVD )

factory : will format the hard drives i.e archives will be deleted

repair   : will format the os drive only (10 GB drive ) and will leave the rest of the storage so you can restore it again .

Dear  Yhya,

Thank you for this comment , I will do it and feedback you after doing it .

Best Regards,
