Should I be doing Suse updates on my vsom servers? I believe I asked our installer and he said no, but I would like to confirm with the general cisco community. If I should, are there any particular updates to avoid that are dependant for VSOM or VSMS etc...?

Danny,
Short answer is NO. Your system came with SUSE configured and in a state that Cisco understands and has tested the software on. Updating the operating system may cause unforeseen, untested, and most importantly...unsupported issues.
Hope this helps!

Hi Cisco-Team,
ist there any planning to deliver an updated/actual OS? ...or OS-patches?
...f.ex. it is not really nice to communicate at an organisation or customer that we are using an qiet unpatched, old and unsecure os for an security system with confidential data on it and SLES 10 SP1 has many critical security leaks...
...at other systems (Callmanager...), cisco gives frequent updates if there are critical bugs or security risks and the OS is branded/closed too.
I hope there would be a better support in future.
Thanks and greetings, Chris
