Hi All,
we're experiencing problem while adding new cameras using hostnames. In the VSOM only valid IP Addresses are usable.
Table 8-3 Network Camera General Settings
Setting
Description
IP Address
Enter the hostname or IP address entered in the camera configuration.
See the camera documentation for instructions.
Note All edge devices (such as cameras and encoders) must added to a server using a local (non-NAT) addresses.
Since we're trying to solve some identities collision using hostnames and not IP Addresses it is tough..
We have a lot of cameras in different points with same addresses (we only need a Central VSOM and a different MS for each point) so we're trying to use DNS as a solution.
Can you help us ?
Ahhh... You may have some underlying fundamental network architecture challenges. Based on what you state: "
We have a lot of cameras in different points with same addresses", I'm assuming you mean sites with the same network addressing range/scheme? If this is the case, I imagine you are going to have significant problems with VSOM<->Camera endpoint communications. Without some form of 1 to 1 NAT mapping, or other workaround, I can't see how this could possibly work.
Could you perhaps provide a generalized Visio diagram or something?
Best of luck.
