Enable Jumbo Frame on individual port

SubX
Level 1
Level 1

Background Setup

- FreeNAS 9.10, one Gigabit NIC, CIFS share & iSCSI, no jumbo frame setup, VLAN
- Cisco SG300-28G switch, L3, VLAN(4), no jumbo frame, 4 ports (access)  connected to FreeNAS (VLAN untagged) - 2 for FreeNAS, 2 for ESXi iSCSI connection only, 2 ports (trunk) connected to ESXi (VM networking, vMotion VLANs)
- ESXi  2 vSwitches (vS0 for VM networking, vS1 for iSCSI only), VLAN, no jumbo frame,

Target State

- enable jumbo frame on iSCSI storage for max performance

Help Needed

1. Will enabling Jumbo frame increase the performance for CIFS share file copies between FreeNAS device? Will iSCSI for ESXi datastore disk performance increase?

2. It needs to be enabled at each component, ESXi iSCSI vSwitch(vmnic),FreeNAS, Cisco SG300, ESXi VM networking (is this required? I doubt it as all storage related activities is at iSCSI level, need expert's input here)

3. Any steps or documents regarding 2. above?

4. Can I just enable jumbo frame on individual port of SG300?

Thanks,

Stephen
