How to direct all LAN http requests a specific LAN IP address

Hello,

       We are using RV042 V3 with dual wan - load balanced. Now we have created a new squid trasnperent proxy server with ip 192.168.7.33 running on windows 2003 server. We have created netsh proxy forwording on the server port 80 to 3128(squid's default) port.

         Now all i have to do is some how configure or tell rv042 to forward http trafic to 192.168.7.33, so that proxy will respond to users request. Let me know if this can be done.

I have not set up a proxy server before on a LAN so I can only speculate. My understanding is that you should direct all of the LAN PCs to the proxy server and then direct the proxy server to the router. All traffic destined for the internet then goes to the proxy first, then the router. You can create an Access Rule in the router to only allow internet access to/from the proxy so if a user tries to bypass the proxy they cannot reach the internet. Well thanks for the reply. However, please help me to configure the rv042 v3 with latest firmware to do the following.

squid Transparent proxy server LAN IP : 192.168.7.3

All the http requests sent from LAN 192.168.7.4 to 200 to wan 1 + wan2 must be redirected to server ip 192.168.7.3 port 80 or 3128.

Please let me if this can be done in RV042, if yes, how it is done.

I am not aware of any way to do what you are attempting with the RV042. Even if the RV042 could redirect http traffic back to the LAN, it seems to me like you will simply create a loop:

1) Host sends http request

2) Traffic reaches RV042 and is routed to proxy on LAN

3) Proxy sends http to RV042

4) RV042 sends http to proxy... you get the picture

Somehow the router would have to direct all http traffic to the proxy, yet direct http traffic only from the proxy to the WAN ports. I could see this working if you had another router. You could use Protocol Binding to force all http traffic to go out WAN 1 or WAN 2. The proxy would connect to that WAN port, filter the traffic and then forward it to the second router (gateway).

Maybe you can connect the proxy between the RV042 and the hosts using a switch and/or access point? Will the proxy pass non-http traffic on to the router or drop it?

Hosts-> Switch and or AP-> Proxy Server-> RV042-> Internet

       That would NOT be the case, because the server ip is 192.168.7.3 and

RV042 should forword http requests from LAN IP range 192.168.7.4 to 200 to wan 1 + wan 2  to proxy server at 3.

So the proxy server has no probelm to communicate with wan's.

Is there anyway rv042 to configure to do this?

I think you're on the right path with the static routes.  Allowing only the IP of the proxy server to reach both wans might be the only missing piece you need.

Otherwise, it might be just simpler to add a second nic to the proxy server, route all traffic to the server and then to the rv042 through the other nic.  Then the rv042 isn't even on the lan and just acts as a regular dual-wan router.
