Hello. I have a old router rv220w to a client and it wants connection via vpn. I configured ipsec vpn and everything goes well less the part with accessing devices by name. From what I have read I should activate the netbios option, but it is gray. Someone can help me with some suggestions please? What options do I have? I mention that I do not have so much knowledge about vpn's. Thanks.

Not sure RV can do (i have not tested) , but if RV does the DNS resolution, it should be working as expected.

yes good you have alternative option for the host file.

Hi

Does this client have internal DNS server?  One way  I can think to solve this you need to have an Internal DNS service.

Then you can create hosts entries translating to the ip address. When you try to reach on this device by name the internal DNS will translate it to Ip address and the access happen.

The router does the DHCP IP address and DNS. There is no AD. He have only a synology NAS.

Yes, the DNS proxy is enabled.

I saw that i can enable NETBIOS option if i modify this field from "any": Remote Traffic Selection / Remote IP.

But i don't know what to put there. I have this options: any, single, range or subnet.

what DNS Server is configured in your DHCP Server RV IP address or Google DNS?

Primary DNS Server is router ip address and second is google.

if that is the case it should do the DNS resolution, is this name resolution looking all VPN users or 1 user.

the quick fix is to change the hosts file in windows mapping to IP to work.

Yes, all users. For now there are 5, but I think there will be more.

For now, I will edit the host files for each one, having no other solution.

Thank you very much.
