Hi everyone!
I’m having a problem just connecting to my DSL line, which works on my current D-Link router. I’m using the New firmware image“WRVS4400Nv2_v2.0.2.1”, and the current problems are:
1: Page “WAN” - Password field goes blank after saving
2: Page “Summary” / “WAN IP” – “Connect” No connection to the Internet using “PPPoE” (Now using my OLD router again)
Can a ticket be raised at CISCO or can anyone else help???
It would also be good if a Internet testing function button could be added on the "WAN "page to help with setting up!!!!!!

Thank you, for your reply!
I am on the firmware version V2.0.2.1. I did disable DoS and also disable the firewall but no success. The PPPoE connection is not working. I did check the connection with my old router and everything was fine. Below you can see the log file from my WRVS4400N router. Maybe it helps.
Thank you again for your reply.

I have the same problem please help !!!

HI,
Can you guys save a configuration from your unit and open it using notepad 2 or notepad++ and check PPPOE settings. You will need to use the find & replace to remove null characters. Make sure the find and replace is in extend mode. Find \0 and replace \R and this will better organize the configuration. Now make sure settings are correct since you are saying the field is grayed out after saving.
If settings are not saving correctly please give SBSC a call @ (Support Numbers)
Also let’s test with the pervious firmware by downgrading and saving PPPOE settings and testing to rule out possible fw bug.

Hi,
i've spoken to Cisco Support ,
they said this problem is a result of a missing "service name" parameter in pppoe connection procedure on this router. ( i cannot believe it !!!!!!!! , big fail for a business device)
Some providers require the "service name" to get a working pppoe login and ip
I wait for any workarounds or suggestions.
I had an older Firmware bevor, it didn't work .
That is what i can see in log
PPPoe plugin initialized
plugin ppoe called
pppd 2.4.1 started by root , uid0
sending PADI
Connecting PPPoe socket : 00 : 00 : 00 : 00 : 00 : 00 0000 0x42618
Couldn't get channel number : transport endpoint is not connected
Doing disconnect
exit
I can't believe it , brandnew router can't do PPPoe , i'm very frustrated
My boss will give it back if i do not get it to work in short time ....

Hello everybody,
After almost an year since this problem occurred on my router I finally manage to solve the problem thanks to jasbryan last post. Thank you very much for your hint, Jasbryan !
Here are the steps I made:
1. Save your configuration file o your laptop using this path on your router Administration->Backup & Restore then click on Backup button. The default file name is "Routercfg.cfg";
2. Open your configuration file using Notepad++ application (http://notepad-plus-plus.org/) and remove all nulls from the file replacing \0 with \r . Make sure that "Extended" is selected whit the radio button on Find Replace window in Notepad++ program ;
3. Save the file again.
4. Close the file.
5. Open the configuration file again. You will see that the information is well structured.
6. Find the "pppoe_service". You will probably find something like this "pppoe_service="
7. Write the service name on the " pppoe_service" entry. You should ask your internet service provider for this information if you don't know but you can also find it in the log file on this entry:
Jul 10 18:28:42 - Unexpected packet: Ether addr: 00:15:17:8e:64:85 (PPPOE Discovery) PPPoE hdr: ver=0x1 type=0x1 code=0x07 sid=0x0000 length=0x0030 (PADO) PPPoE tag: type=0102 length=0004 (AC Name) data (UTF-8): ftth PPPoE tag: type=0101 length=0004 (Service name) data
As you will see the service name required for me is "data"
Write "pppoe_service=data" in the configuration file. You should know that I am from Romania and this sarvice name "data" is applicable for the RCS-RDS internet service provider.
8. Save your configuration file.
9. Upload the configuration file back on your router using the path this path on your router Administration->Backup & Restore, select your file then click on Restore button.
10. Re-configure your PPPoE connection only if is necessary by entering the username and password again.
11. Reboot your router.
In few minutes the internet connection is restored.
I hope this information is useful for you all.
Best regards,
Ilie Cristea

I tried to do this but after changing any content in the config file i cannot upload it.
What is the problem ?
I have only changed the "pppoe_service=T-Online" like in the workaround above.
The config has hash or crc-check and does not allow to change anything in the config and upload it to the router
CISCO why u can't build a business router which works ?
Without a working PPPOE Connection this Router is useless for us
