Hello,
A client of mine has a Cisco RV042 Router. I've configured it to run VPN and it works, sort of. Some clients can connect, others can't, for no discernible reason. Specific machine issues are Windows 7 x64 or x86, QuickVPN latest release, unobtrusive (Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials) security, etc. 2 separate machines on the same home remote network, 1 can connect just fine, the other can't. My laptop (Win7 x64) connects just fine, one of my techs can connect OK, the IT support guy that works for this client can connect.
Particulars of the router: Firmware version: v4.0.4.02; PID VID : RV042 V03; Firmware MD5 Checksum : 1f84d8d0a2a8b99f9bfa4409e64547aa
Any ideas? Upgrade firmware? Use a different client?
Thanks for any help.

Well it may not be necessary to uprgade anything to the router if you have a successful connection from one computer but not others. Since I can't see your network, have you checked that all computers are configured properly in the correct workgroup? Though this may be a simple problem, it is often overlooked. Since some computers can connect but others can't ensure that ports 4500 and 500 are configured on the firewall so that traffic can flow through on the VPN. It seems as though XP had a similar error.
Another solution may be to change your VPN settings to allocate ip addresses within range. Though these are simple solutions to an otherwise complicated problem, without knowing what you have tried it is a way to start.

One of the PCs that con't connect used to be at the office, connected into the network and authenticated to the various network devices just fine. The user took it home to work from there, first time she tried to use the VPN, nothing. So it doesn't look like a workgroup or domain authentication issue. Just can't successfully connect to the router.
I'll check on the ports issue. Thanks.

Hello Marc,
Since it is just some PCs and not others most likely it is something on those particular computers that is different.
Take a look over this document, it goes through all the little things that can prevent QuickVPN from working.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-15296
The biggest thing that gets most people is the firewall, for XP it needs to be disabled, and for 7 it neesd to be enabled with certain rules created.
The document covers how to check all these things.
Let me know how it goes.
