Hi,

My Client has asked me to provide 1G router which has complete 1G throughput with NAT and QoS feature enable. Can any one recommend which router performance is 1G  when features are configured on the router.

Is there any router in ISR series because this looks expensive and may be
more power intensive, we need router which can be fixed in racks easily

its suggestion give based on your requirement, so business need to take decision. here is some models

also until we know what you looking in terms of requirements its hard to say ?

Hi balaji,

Thanks for your answer. We are looking for some small to medium scale
router. The router role is to act as a gateway have a wan link of 1G
performing NAT and QoS. It shouldn't be power intensive which requires some
exta power arrangements. It can be fit into normal AC power slots. WAN link
should give 1G throughput under the feature stress (specifically NAT and
QoS).

What about an ISR 4431 with the 1Gb/s upgrade licence, or the 4451?

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/routers/4000-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/models-comparison.html

You could also consider a Meraki MX100 which has 750Mb/s of through, or an MX250 which will do 4Gb/s with what you have mentioned.

https://meraki.cisco.com/lib/pdf/meraki_whitepaper_mx_sizing_guide.pdf

A Cisco 1100-8P is the lowest cost option and will get pretty close if you are only doing NAT and QoS.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/1000-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/datasheet-c78-739512.html

Doing only routing I have had these units clock 1Gb/s of throughput with lots of CPU to spare.

Hi Phillip,

Have you tested the router. Client has specifically asked that he needs 1G
throughput when he connects without LAN. It shouldnt be 980 or 990.

I can't make that guarantee.  You would need to test it yourself.  I was just trying to suggest an option that would be tens of thousands of dollars cheaper than the others.

Once side we are discussing cost, another side we are looking Performance Gaurantee ?

For 1GB WAN Throughput Depends on how you deploy the config, Cisco Test with most of the product as per the specification.

Once the Customer make mind price vs performance, then right product can be delivered.

As suggested Meraki and 4K also can be considered, bare in mind for 1GB WAN you need license.

If i were you i do some research with other vendor offer and compare which one one best to offer.

some place customer not worried much..so i have deployed simple Linux router with NAT and QoS (works like charm)   <<---- may be not sure cisco forum dont like me offering here this kind of comment, but this is fact.

hi,

I understand your concern and I am fully aware of and I recommended Client before but he insisted on Cisco router that is why I posted over here.

Don't you have to consider the modem?  How are you going to get real gig without a dual connection?

We have 1G dedicated connection. Client has specifically requested for Cisco router

I was just thinking there is a lot of overhead for Ethernet with a single connection to where you cannot achieve true gig speeds without a lag type connection.

PS

There are other options but not 1 gig Ethernet. 10 gig Ethernet will also cover this fine for running true 1 gig internet connection.
