RV160W PPPoE frecquent disconnects (3-4 per day)

Hi All,

I bought a new RV160W to replace an old Asus router, I installed, and from the first 2 hours of working it started disconnecting from PPPoE connection.

It connects to my provider via a PPPoE connection, dynamic IP allocated by the provider. I use and internal VLAN / DHCP with IPs allocated by the router.

The router firmware version is 1.0.00.15.

I have tried all solutions find here in the Small Business Support Community in similar threads, but none of them worked: Keep alive vs. Connect on-demand, MTU 1492, Firewall SPI disable, etc and different settings.

I am very disappointed by this situation as Cisco is named the leader in networking...my old Asus did not do that.

Probably I will go and buy another Asus soon if this Cisco does no work properly.

My small business is affected by Internet outages that occur so often and at very inappropriate times, in the middle of a video or Skype conference with a client.

Dear Cisco community and engineers, is there anything I can do with this equipment to work properly or not?

Please see a short excerpt from the router's logs:

Hi,

My name is Puneet Sandel and I am from Cisco small business technical support center.

Please upgrade the Firmware of the router to 1.0.00.17. Also try to make changes to WAN port speed and mode.

IMPORTANT: Disable Block WAN request under Basic settings after clicking the Firewall tab in the GUI.

In case Auto negotiation is enabled, try to manually force the speed onto the WAN port. Also make sure you use Keep alive for WAN port configuration.

Hope this helps.

Note: Please give any helpful votes for the queries answered. Mark this thread as the solution if the issue gets resolved.

Hi Puneet,

I upgraded the firmware to the latest version (1.0.00.17) and there was no change, the router continues to disconnect from PPPoE connection randomly and frequently.

For one day I disabled completely the firewall and the same result.

As for Auto Negotiation (Gigabit), I would like to keep the Gigabit connection because all the other options mean a lower bandwidth, 10MBs or 100MBs, Half or Full. But I do not have an option for Gigabit Half or Full.

I confirm I use Keep alive for WAN port configuration

Some additional information that may help to diagnose the case:

My Internet service provider allocates IPv6, I tested by connecting my computer directly to the line, and I got the attached IP configuration.

Maybe it's something related to IPv6 configurations because I couldn't configure Cisco RV160W to get IPv6 from my ISP.
I tried all the options (SLAAC, DHCP, PPPoE) with no success.
When I disabled IPv6, the standard IPv4 connection could not be made, which is strange. So I had to choose SLAAC or DHCP for IPv6 just for the IPv4 connection to work.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards!
