Hello,
We purchased a Cisco RV042G for our company.
We have a 200Mb cable line, but the router does not go over 80 - 100Mb. When we use the router from our 2nd connection all works fine and we achieve the maximum speed. We tested the speed with a speedtest provided by our provider and 'speedtest.net'
Type: RV042G-K9-EU (V01)
s/n: NKS16290112
Firmware installed: v4.2.1.02
We found this setting in 'Dual WAN - WAN1 configuration', but can not put it higher than 100Mb...
Dual WAN
The Max Bandwidth Provided by ISP
Interface : | WAN1 |
Upstream : | ![]() |
Downstream : | ![]() |
We found also the setting below in 'Port management' This should be in 'auto negotiation' (as it is...)
Internet | WAN1 | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() |
But still no success...
Any suggestions?
with regards,
Robin

Thank you for using our forum, my name is Johnnatan I am part of the Small business Support community. Since you already have the latest firmware running, I would first like to suggest you reset the router to factory conditions, reconfigure manually and test the WAN1 link again. Please try that out and do not hesitate to reach me back if anything comes up and/or if there is any further assistance I may help you with.
I hope you find this answer useful

Hello Jonathan, thank you for your reply. Today I reset the router to factory default. It gives a little improvement, but not yet as desired.
I tested it today at our 150Mb line, but it doesn't get higher than aprox 130Mb, still not as desired...
With our other router we reach max speed...

There is something delaying the connection, do you have multiple ACL, the IPS feature enabled or VPN connections? If you are running a lot of these protocols could be the reason, also I want to ask you if it is possible to reconfigure the router just with the necessary or minimum configuration in order to test the connection. You can also check the Mtu size of your connection it could be betwen 1472 and 1492

Hello Jonathan,
I've found the delay. It's in the Firewall. When I leave the firewall at default settings, wan speed is 130Mb. When i turn it off I get full speed.
The router is untill now in default settings, only changed password, forwarded soms ports and added some dchp ip's.
regards,
Robin

Hi,
I would also like to report my experience.
My ISP offers a 1000Mbps (1 Gbps) service. If the service is connected my laptop directly, the maximum speed is 800Mbps+ download.
If the service is connected to the RV042G with firewall off, the maximum speed is only 130Mbps+.
With firewall on, hthe maximum speed is only 110Mbps+.
Will a future firmware fix this problem? What is the point of a gigabit WAN if it cannot route close to gigabit speeds?

Hello Dibbink:
Please refer the article Bandwidth Management on RV016, RV042, RV042G, and RV082 VPN Routers. This Article can help you to configure the bandwidth of your router.
I hope this will help you.
