2960s/x - ip address dhcp under VLAN

Hello all

The issue is that, we've decided to put all our 2960 switches to get there IP from our central DHCP server. This works flawlessly.
BUT every time the switches reboots, it optains a new IP, dispite the fact that we made a reservation for the device.

We can see that the switches create a new unique ID each time, so is there some way we can stop the switches from doing this?

Sadly no, you need to do that in your DHCP server.
Create reservations and IP bindings on your server, DHCP clients e.g., PC, laptop, and yes switch cant control that

Well the switch is not running the dhcp function.

It optains the IP from a Windows server DHCP, and its on those servers the ID changes every time.

Hope it makes sense.

Your network setup is pretty unconventional considering the management IP of the switches are not assigned statistically, but anyway still the same point.

In your DHCP Server, create a reservation address and bind it to the MAC addresses of the switches. and you cant configure the switch that way, put it this way, a client cant tell a server what IP it wants to lease.

That is why in the server itself, create a reservation for it. Windows server DHCP role has a "reservation" w/c an IP can be assigned to a MAC.

Get the MAC address of the switch and assign an IP to it.
but I would highly recommend assigning an IP statistically on the switches since it is management purposes.
