3825 performance on 100Mb metro E

We have a disaster recovery location that we are installing a 100Mb metro E connection to our MPLS environment. We don't do anything with MPLS labels, just peer BGP with our provider. The routing table has about 2500 routes. Only other service turned on is some QoS policies. Anybody see any potential performance issues using a 3825?

Hello Blaine,

I don't think a C3825 can handle 100 Mbps full-duplex but it is not far from that

it is supposed to be able to handle 179 Mbps 350000 pps with CEF with no additional feature

means 90 Mbps full duplex with not QoS policies

2500 BGP routes shouldn't be a problem

Yes. As Giuseppe notes, the router's rated performance couldn't substain 100 Mbps (duplex) for minimum size packets. With average larger (and normal) sized packets, you might push 100 Mbps duplex but you're not leaving any spare CPU for QoS or other processes (e.g. BGP). The 3845 would be a safer choice.

PS:

Since you're only doing Ethernet, depending on your feature needs, you might also look at the various LAN L3 switches, e.g. 8 port 3560, or Metro L3 switches, e.g. 3750 Metro.
