3825 upon first boot up rtr has n> prompt

What does a n> prompt mean? and how do I get to the regular "router" prompt

Well, When you already added the enable password. The prompt is "n#". Right?

Please try this out. To get a rid of what I had in mind.

n#conf t

n(conf)#hostname Router

The routers (2 3800s) are back on their way to the whse. I'm just really, really curious

here's more…

two routers, both 3825's, 1st rtr came up with the “n>” prompt

I had the onsite tech cold boot the rtr 5 times

the rtr came up with the “do you want to..” the initial config question

I got to the router# prompt and configured the rtr

the second rtr came up with the “n>” also

after 4 cold boots the prompt remained the same n>

I stopped the upgrade…

If it was a pre-confg, hostname, etc…. how did the 1st router loose it's config?

The routers had to be re-booted several times before the config was erased? This one goes to the books! That defies everything in relations to RAMs. One is OK (possibly a factory defect) but two? Seriously. Something was done to both for them to loose their configs completely.

Think about it. If your own laptop was rebooted several times, do you suddenly find yourself loosing your OS?

how did the 1st router loose it's config

YOu wrotein your initial message that config register is 2102, is it for both or 2nd one.

The router which has lost config can have config register 2142 where it ignores config.
