Hi

170.100.0.0/16 is variably subnetted,7 subnets,2 mask.

That indicates that within the routing table there are 7 subnets of network 170.100.0.0. It indicates that as a nominal class B network the natural mask for network 170.100.0.0 is /16 (or 255.255.0.0). And it indicates that the 7 subnets do not all use the same subnet mask (so it is variable subnetted) and that 2 different subnet masks are used for subnets within that network.
For example you might find that some of the subnets within network 170.100.0.0 are /24 (or 255.255.255.0) for user subnets and that other subnets are /30 (or 255.255.255.252) for point to point links.
