Hi all,

May I know the main difference between Cisco 7200 and 7600 boxes.

From architecture perspective as well as features perspective.

They are significant. The 7600 is the 6500 rebranded and modified to address the service provider/carrier/optical market. It has 30 Mpps central or up to 400 Mpps forwarding capacity and up to 720 Gbps backplane.

The 7200 is a mid-range router with only (up to) 2Mpps forwarding capacity and a 1.8 Gbps backplane.

See the Cisco Product Quick Reference Guide for more details. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/qrg/index.html

Hope this helps. Please rate helpful posts.

Hello Aneesh,

a C7200 is a software based router with a main cpu involved also on packet fowarding even if using CEF.

A C7600 is a multilayer switch that has different levels of hardware based ASICs for packet forwarding implementing a mixture of central and distributed CEF but with hardware assistance.

So C7600 is much more strong in performance and C7200 has a broader range of features.

Cisco has recently introduced the ASR 1000 family of devices that are in between the two above for performance and features.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
