Dear all
I have problem with RSP720 backup module installed on Slot 5, all leds are in Ambar status. I am planning to plug it out and plug it in, trying to deterine if there is hardware issue. Compact flash is no inserted, I just inserted with IOS running on Slot6. I would like to know how to switch between module 6 and module 5. If those RSP720 are installed, one should be in ACTIVE status and the second one is STANDBY?

First of all connect to the console port of the RSP in slot 5 and hit Enter a couple of times in the terminal program that you're using. If you get a "rommon>" prompt just send it the "boot" command - assuming the hardware is fine and nothing has happened to the RSP's IOS image, it should boot and become the stand-by supervisor for the chassis. If that happens successfully you can then take a look at possible causes (like incorrect config register) of the RSP getting stuck in the ROM monitor...

"redundancy force-switchover" should turn the currently Hot supervisor Active

Maybe the RSP is stuck in ROMMON - attach a console to it, and if that's the case just "boot" it and you can debug the situation further after it's up (maybe somehow it lost the correct value of the config register)...

Dear IVAIDEANU, how can I boot RSP? Cisco 7609 is running and RSP Slot 6 is active, if I work with Slot 5 may cause issue on all system? Let me know which command can I apply for ROMMON status. Once is on active status, are those RSP active? or on in Active and the other one in STANBY?

One more question. how can I turn active RSP Slot 6, in order to be sure that is OK, and Slot 5 in Hot status?

"redundancy force-switchover" should turn the currently Hot supervisor Active
