I have configured a new 857 to operate in rfc 1483 with static ip. the connection is very slow, the old router works really better than now. I've tried upgrading the firmware to 3.0.33 but nothing changed.
following the configuration and the details of the interface ATM0.1
please give me some help in configuration.
Best Regards.
Daniele

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cisco Configuration Professional (Cisco CP) is installed on this device
and it provides the default username "cisco" for one-time use. If you have
already used the username "cisco" to login to the router and your IOS image
supports the "one-time" user option, then this username has already expired.
You will not be able to login to the router with this username after you exit
this session.
It is strongly suggested that you create a new username with a privilege level
of 15 using the following command.
username <myuser> privilege 15 secret 0 <mypassword>
Replace <myuser> and <mypassword> with the username and password you
want to use.

it looks really better, the only bad sensation i've is the first 1-2 second of initial latency.
for example after a ping the first response is a request timed out. i'm using 151.99.125.2, the classical dns server of telecom italia (i'll suppose you are italian too)
Pinging www.l.google.com [74.125.232.116] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.

Your latency is a little bit high, should be less than 30 ms RTT within the country.
Check with traceroute..
Thanks for the nice rating and good luck!
