Optimum online provides the 851 with which they require you to use.
We need the 861 because of MAC security.
Is there a way we can have it:
Modem -> 851 -> 861-> Computer. But noone will be able to disconnect the 861 from the 851 and plug a computer directly into it?
Thanks

Hello David,
>> But noone will be able to disconnect the 861 from the 851 and plug a computer directly into it?
I'm afraid this will be possible unless you put the devices in a locked rack.
if 851 misses MAC security you cannot configure it to accept only C861 MAC address.
the other option you describe in the other thread may be the right one putting the C861 directly to DSL modem.
Hope to help

The other thread idea only works for a DSL provider.
But optimum online with their static IP service provides you with a C851.
And I want to disable anyone from connecting any additional computers to the network for internet access.
Thanks

Put the router inside a locked rack, get a WS-C2960-8 switch too and configure the switch with MAC security.
