About adding additoinal IP on Vlan..

Good day all,

I am new to Cisco system (Switches/ Catalyst 3750). I have a vlan with 3 ports(Fa2/0/2,Fa2/0/4, Fa2/0/24) assigned to it. My vlan has 105.28.109.145 255.255.255.248 as ip assigned to it.

I have a server plugged on port Fa2/0/24 with static ip: 105.28.109.150 255.255.255.248

When I assign other ip such as 105.28.109.151 on the server plugged ton the same port Fa2/0/24, I am not getting internet access.

Kindly assist as I would like to add or enable an additional ip with same range to my vlan that will allow me assign to an other server and use plug maybe on port Fa2/0/2.

Note: Switch is connected directly from Fiber Optic router from ISP

Please help as I am directly applying these on a work environment.

Hello,

With the subnet mask 255.255.255.248, your host range will be: 105.28.109.145 - 105.28.109.150. 105.28.109.151 will be broadcast address. Use any of the available host IPs (one IP will be your gateway ip) and it will work.

I agree, that IP should not be accepted by the server because It is the broadcast IP.  That is not a valid IP for a host or interface.

Your network provides 6 valid IP addresses, it is based on your subnet mask /29, the valid IPs are:

105.28.109.145
105.28.109.146
105.28.109.147
105.28.109.148
105.28.109.149
105.28.109.150

Now, in order to avoid to use all the public IP addresses you could create a PAT (a kind of NAT) on your edge router in order to use 1 IP address to provide Internet access to all internal devices. but not sure if you want to use the public IP addresses for any specific reason.
