another 2901 VWIC card question

I'm still trying to get the circuit connected to my new VWIC card working correctly.  I get a CD light on the VWIC card, as well as an alarm light, but the circuit shows as down/down.  If I throw a hard loop in front of where I plug into the circuit, my interface shows up/up (looped).  I'm trying to do a ping test to make sure my cable is good, but for some reason I can't ping its ip address.

There are no access lists on the interface at all, so I would expect that pinging its own IP address would return results. The other two circuits are able to ping their own IP addresses.  Any ideas?

  • Perform additional extended pings with different data patterns. For example:

    I appreciate the advice to take the serial interface back to basic configuration as a way to verify that there is not something in the current config that gets in the way. But my attention goes to the part of the original post where it says that without loopback the interface shows as down/down. In that context the output of show controller might be helpful.

    I can see possibilities that the issue might be a bad card in the router, that it might be a bad cable connecting the router to the circuit, or that it might be a problem in the installation of the circuit. The original post says that there are two other circuits that are working so I would suggest moving some things around to see if you can identify the problem. (that assumes that all three circuits were provisioned the same)  If you take the cable from one of the successful curcuits and connect it to the interface that is not working and the circuit stays up then you have proved that the card in the router is ok. If that is not the problem then return all cables to their original locations. They try exchanging the cable that connects the problem interface with the cable from one of the good interfaces. If the "bad" interface comes up and the "good" interface goes down then you have proved that the cable is the problem. If that is not the issue then return all cables to their original position. Then try exchanging the circuit end of the bad interface with one of the circuit connections that is working. If the "bad" interface circuit now comes up then you have demonstrated that there is a problem with the circuit installation.

    Wow - this thread really does not want to display correctly for me...

    @Richard - since originally posting this, I have done many things to try and get it to work, including changing the framing settings, line code settings, etc.  I changed cables with a known working one - problem stayed with the circuit.  I swapped cards - problem stayed with the circuit.  I connected the circuit to the card in slot0/0/0, which is configured the same as far as framing, etc (just a different IP) and I could still not see the loop that the telco had put on the circuit.

    The telco is sending someone out, though they think they've proven the problem is not theirs when they were able to see my hard loop at the router end.  I still think it's theirs, as all my tests indicate that it is.

    This turned out to be an issue with the RJ48X jack extension from the DMARC.  LEC messed with it for 3 hours to get it to work - lol.

    I still find it odd I couldn't ping my own IP address when I had a hard loopback on it.  This whole setup is very odd.  There is probably a cleaner way of doing this.  I will likely post a different discussion topic for it.

    Thanks for posting back that the problem is solved. A problem with the circuit extension is certainly consistent with the testing that you performed.
