We have an ASR1002 running the following:

OS:

Cisco IOS XE Software, Version 03.16.04b.S - Extended Support Release
Cisco IOS Software, ASR1000 Software (PPC_LINUX_IOSD-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 15.5(3)S4b, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

ROMMON:

0         07120202            12.2(33r)XNC
R0        08011017            12.2(33r)XNC
F0        07091401            12.2(33r)XNC

We're getting the following during boot, after Image is loaded. My primary concerns are in bold:

Boot image size = 392905340 (0x176b427c) bytes

Missing or illegal ip address for variable DEFAULT_GATEWAY
Using midplane macaddr

There is a newer ROMMON image, 16.3(2r), but I wanted to reach out to the community before assuming that was the proper move.

Thanks in advance.

i have the same issue on a ASR 1002 with the same ROMMON version.

My IOS image is asr1000rp1-adventerprisek9.03.16.02.S.155-3.S2-ext.bin

You want to update ROMMON to 16.3(2r) and let me know what happens ;)

Sort of joking. But I'm remote, so I would hate to lock myself out.

Hey there!
I have a problem and I need your advice

As it said in this article http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/asr1000/release/notes/asr1k_rn_rel_notes/asr1k_rn_sys_req.html when I'm updating from .03.13.00.S.154-3.S to 03.16.04b.S.155-3.S4b I don't need to update ROMMON.
Why I get this error:
R0/0: %BOOT-0-DRV_LOADFAIL: Failed to load driver contdev ( FATAL: Module contdev not found. )

Hey guys, Any ideas ?

I just got the same two messages below when booting an ASR1002 with 03.16.05.S (ROMMON 16.3(2r));  then I went back to 03.13.06a.S without any errors - I believe those lines are IOS (not ROMMON) related, and probably not "service affecting" (maybe they have something to do with some new functionality present in IOS XE 3.16S that RP1 can't do), but it would be nice to get some more info on what they mean...

R0/0: %BOOT-0-DRV_LOADFAIL: Failed to load driver contdev ( FATAL: Module contdev not found. )
R0/0: %PMAN-3-PROC_EMPTY_EXEC_FILE: Empty executable used for process vman

I've experienced a similar issue just with all the error messages outline above. What i also found interesting, is that I have configured BGP for address-family ipv4 mvpn. The router took the config but when i went to sh run, its not there. Think i'm going to try another image and see.

Also, does your bootvar look a little strange? Here's mine and I can't seem to clear it and make it just have the one .bin entry. Wondering if that has something to do with it.

router#sho bootvar
BOOT variable = asr1000rp1-adventerprisek9.03.16.04b.S.155-3.S4b-ext.bin,1;bootflash:asr1000rp1-adventerprisek9.03.16.04b.S.155-3.S4b-ext.bin,1;,1;
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist
BOOTLDR variable does not exist
Configuration register is 0x2102

Standby not ready to show bootvar
