what is the difference between ASR1K series i.e ASR1002-X/K9 or ASR1002-10G-X/K9 or ASR1002-5G-X/K9
They say these are upgradable upto 36Gbps, but how without a single 10G port.
On only 1G*6 slots you cant upgrade beyond 6Gbps

Hello @navjeetkrai ,
the performance data refers to the aggregate throughput on the ESP.
see table 5 of the data sheet
Of course as you noted to take advantage of increased performance you need to install the appropriate SPA with 10GE port each.
You need to buy both the hardware and the license to upggrade the performance.
Edit:
see also the FAQ it lists the SPA 10GE 1 port v2
Hope to help

Hi Giuseppe , thanks for your response however I did refer to the same link but in table 5 there is no mention of 10G ports and indeed in table 4 of the same URL it says that there are no additional NIM modules or in-build 10G ports.
Hence I dont see option to order hardware of 10G ports in ASR1002 to support more than 2 Gbps and ofcourse this cant be achieved on 1G ports.

Hello @navjeetkrai ,
you should be able to install 2 or 3 SPA modules see the FAQ
The SPA 1 port 10GE is the right one to be used for this purposes.
Hope to help

by name it suggests that its for ethernet handoff, what would be the SPA for optical single mode handoff in ASR1002?

Hello @navjeetkrai ,
the SPA has for sure an SFP+ slot where you can insert the desired optics single mode SFP+ optics.
Cisco 1-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Shared Port Adapter, Version 2 |
SPA-1X10GE-L-V2 |
Cisco 1-Port 10GE LAN/WAN-PHY Shared Port Adapter |
SPA-1X10GE-WL-V2 |
The first one should be enough for your needs unless you need to accept a WAN PHY in that case you need to buy the second one that is dual mode LAN/WAN.
Hope to help
Giuseppe
