At this time is BGP the dominant IGP for a campus network?

Referring to campus networks where direct fiber connectivity exists between routers and CORE but the network is too large/complex for a collapsed-core scenario thus entailing the need for an IGP. A non-Cisco SE came in to sell us a VXLAN solution for extended VLANs between two data-centers on the campus network. SE stated that BGP is the IGP in the majority of such campus networks he sees and that others like OSPF are not. I can see where BGP would be utilized in and between VXLAN instances but I am curious if BGP has now become the dominant IGP on campus networks.

I am not sure how important the VXXLAN aspect is in his comment. And I do not have much expertise with VXLAN. But I will say that in my experience BGP is not the dominant protocol for campus networks.

And I will also point out that if the issue is looking for IGP, that BGP is an EGP.
