BFD and OSPF in a ring network

I'm designing a ring network of about 18 Layer 3 switches and am intending to propose OSPF with BFD for sub-second convergence. Has anyone designed OSPF with BFD to support sub-seconds convergence?

BFD is better than OSPF fast hellos as it takes some of the control of from the data plan and thus reducing some CPU utilization. Anyone have any comments on such a design?

BFD is definitely preferred over sub-second timers with routing protocols.

As you stated, routing protocols in sub-second timers place a heavy load on the CPU Utilization while BFD does not.
