Booting Stops Part Way, Is this a hardware issue?

Hello,

Long time reader first time poster.  I have a purchased secondhand 3550 and it has failed to finish booting.  Initially I tried switching console cables, and then computers.  Later I did upload a different, yet similar, IOS via xmodem and it stops booting at the same spot.  I assume it's a hardware issue but would like to see if it's possible I am wrong.  This is where it stops booting at all times:

Could be a hardware failure or a corrupt IOS.

Post the boot up process.

I think this is a problem with your USB-to-serial connection.  Try another client.

Initially this is what I thought.  I then used my PC which has a serial port and tried two different cables.

I manage to solve this problem by deleting the config file.  For those who are unfamiliar:

Hold down the physical mode button on the front of the device while powering it on and release once the recovery menu has loaded.

Issue the flash_init command.

switch: flash_init

Delete the config file usually called config.text.  Eg: delete flash:/config.text

reboot

Jason

Thanks for posting back to the forum and letting us know that you have found a solution.

Knowing that you solved the problem by deleting the config makes it easy to look at the last message displayed in the boot process and wonder if some command in the config was enabling some kind of loopback.

HTH
