Can a Cisco 1941 router handle a 100 Mbps internet circuit?

Hi,

We currently have a Cisco 1941 router connected to a 40 Mbps internet circuit, but want to upgrade the circuit to 100 Mbps. The belief is that our router will max out at 50 Mbps. I want to know if a Cisco 1941 router can handle a 100 Mbps internet circuit, what is a good way for me to determine that, and what Cisco routers would be able to handle a 100 Mbps internet circuit?

Rick

Hi

that router in total only has a 153 mb throughput , when encryption is in place its half that

real world you will prob get about 50mb , check this chart shows wan speeds for platforms

There is 4000 series ISR routers as well and ASRs but that's prob bit overkill depending on amount of users

Thanks for the document, Mark. You said that the 1941 has 153 mb throughput, which would get about 50 mb. How can I do that calculation myself? Do you know of any link to a table with those conversions? How did you convert that to 50 mb?

I just know from experience what you can push from them never seen one go over 50mb 60m in standard setups  , when you use encryption and nat its rule of thumb nearly on all ISR devices that the throughput nearly halves all round and the more features the router enables the slower it gets. Even that doc I posted Cisco recommends only a 50mb wan link on a 2921 model saying that I have seen them push a lot more in right conditions

to get full 100mb I would be looking at 3900 minimum or 4000 series ISR as there newer routers, if price is an issue 2921/51 will get you close

Thanks!
