We are using a Cisco Router 2621 model. We are having difficulty connecting to the Cisco router via a Windows PC.
We tried to use HyperTerminal however a router prompt never appeared even though the router was powered on.
What could we be doing wrong?
Is there a definitive step-by-step instructions with pictures to install physically and configure a Cisco 2621 router?
We are trying to use this webpage: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/2600/hardware/quick/guide/2600bkl.html
However we get lost on step 3: Use either the RJ-45-to-DB-9 adapter or the RJ-45-to-DB-25 adapter, depending on your local terminal or PC.
What is a DB-25 adapter? What wires do we need to start talking to this router with a PC through a terminal?

Hello Pratik,
if your PC has an Rs-232 serial port, that is a DB-9.
follow the instructions of the following document for the pinout RJ-45 to DB9:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps214/products_tech_note09186a00801f5d85.shtml#db9
if your PC has no serial port you need also an USB to RS-232 converter.
Hope to help

Hi Pratik,
If your PC has serial port then you connect a DB 9 convertor at PC end and roll over cable at the backend of the rj 45 part and other at console port of router.
If you dont have then you need to have usb to db 9 convertor to achive the same.
Check out the below link on Baud rate configuration once you get the console for routers.
