Hello Everyone,

We have 3 locations which server as our data centers, each location has a pair of 6506E in a VSS configuration. In one of the data centers, we are having to relocate the pair of switches to a different location. The question i have is that, what would be the least disruptive way to move switches? Can we move all sites to the active unit from the standby unit and then we shut down the standby switch and move it to the new Rack, re cable the VSS fibre links, then bring it backup. Once it's up, then we have the backup switch become the active switch (how do i do this, commands etc), and then move the original active switch and power it back on.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Hi,

yes, if you move them within the same datacenter and they are within fiber distance, that should be possible.

To switchover use the following command:

redundancy force-switchover

Use following command to check status:

show redundancy

I would still recommend you to do this outside business hours :-)

Regards,
Markus
