Cisco 2811 Incorrectly Reports AC Power Supply After DC Installation

Hello Cisco Community,

I recently purchased a used Cisco 2811 router (PID: CISCO2811, S/N: FTX1421AHUZ) and replaced its original AC power supply with a DC power supply. However, the command show env all still shows "Main Power Supply is AC" even though only a single DC power supply is connected. The router boots up normally, and the DC power input is confirmed to be working.

Details:

  • IOS Version: 12.4 (17a)

  • Modules Installed:

    • PVDM2-64 (DSP SIMM)

    • NM-16ESW (16-port EtherSwitch)

  • Commands & Outputs:

    Copy

    Download
    Router#show inventory
NAME: "2811 chassis", DESCR: "2811 chassis"
    PID: CISCO2811, VID: V08, SN: FTX1421AHUZ
NAME: "PVDMII DSP SIMM with four DSPs", DESCR: "PVDMII DSP SIMM with four DSPs"
    PID: PVDM2-64, VID: V01, SN: FOC14191KZN
NAME: "16 Port 10BaseT/100BaseTX EtherSwitch", DESCR: "16 Port 10BaseT/100BaseTX EtherSwitch"
    PID: NM-16ESW, VID: V01, SN: FOC104421SY

    Router#show env all
    Main Power Supply is AC
    Fan 1 OK
    Fan 2 OK
    Fan 3 OK
    System Temperature: 24 Celsius (normal)
Environmental information last updated 00:00:05 ago

Issue Summary:

  • The router detects the power supply as AC despite using a DC power unit.

  • I suspect this is an IOS 12.4(17a) bug, but I couldn't find any official Cisco documentation or Bug ID related to this issue.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone encountered a similar problem with Cisco 2800 series routers?

  2. Is there a known Bug ID or Cisco document addressing this power supply detection issue?

Since this is a second-hand device, I don't have a Cisco service contract. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

I see no relferrnce of the PSU in the inventory

Are you sure this model accepts modular power supply

I've checked it's not modular, but you can/must open the chassis to replace the power module.

correct. for change muse open chassis

No, this model does not accept a modular power supply.
You have to open the cover and install the power supply internally. It is not a modular, hot-swappable type.
