Cisco 837 restarting the ATM0 interface randomly

Hi Guys me again (you helped me get the port forward stuff working properly). Since then I have noticed I have been getting periodic connection timeouts (mainly when gaming or using remote desktop). I attributed this to the PC (its just been rebuilt), but having spent some time it appears to be just fine.

I have setup a syslogd on my windows bot to try and understand if it is the router and I have a result. It seems to be bringing interfaces down and up again randomly.

I have this log output

07-23-2007 01:06:07 Local7.Notice 10.10.10.1 1490: 10.10.10.1: 4d04h: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Virtual-Access2, changed state to up

Can anyone suggest why this is suddenly happening to me?

(its on Dynamic IP, ADSL PPPoA)

thanks Rachel

Hi Rachel,

these can be "ADSL retrains". Please send "show version" and "show dsl interface" to see what can be done about it.

Here is the output;

Training log buffer capability is not enabled yet.

Hi,

code is quite old and would benefit from an update. I guess you do not have a support contract to access the download, so you would need to locate someone that has it.

Anyway you can enable the training log to see if indeed there are sync loss on the ADSL:

int atm 0

dsl enable-training-log

Ok While I wait for the Gibtelecom techies to have a look at the line, I have decided to update the IOS (as the newer versions have DDNS support which is useful for me).

I have 'attained' c837-k9o3y6-mz.123-7.T12.bin and as my Router is a 48/12mb model I will go and find a nice howto, in order to update it.

Hopefully see you all soon ....

Ok this looks like it could be the ADSL provider - I have heard reports of other clients having similar issues. I have enabled the training-log (but am unsure how to view it). I have reported a possible fault to Gibtelecom who assure me they will have a tech-monkey look at it and call me tomorrow.

I will contiue to monitor the log for anything new, but thus far its randomly generating the same output :(

Thanks guys :)

Rachel - Still smiling in Gibraltar.....

Just an FYI - the update went swimmingly - I am going to try and 'spank' my network traffic now and see if the problem reoccurs during the next 12 hours.... x fingers guys

Rachel
