Cisco ASR1001-X Throughput License

hi,

we've got ASR1K with IOS-XE version 16.9.x and using non-Smart license.

the chassis is running the default 2.5 Gbps throughput.

just a few questions:

1.is the show platform hardware qfp active datapath utilization summary command used to find the current "total" ingress and egress throughput on the chassis?

2. can i activate either the 5g, 10g or 20g throughput license for "free" without purchasing any PAK/traditional license?

3. do i just apply the required throughput RTU license, accept EULA, save and reload?

ASR1K(config)# platform hardware throughput level 10000000

After running the command, I will be presented with the EULA that has to be accepted by typing “yes”.

<SNIP>

Activation of the software command line interface will be evidence of your acceptance of this agreement.
ACCEPT? (yes/[no]): yes

ASR1K#reload

Hello @johnlloyd_13

Yes, the show platform hardware qfp active datapath utilization summary command is used to find the current total ingress and egress throughput on the chassis. It provides information about the input and output traffic, both in packets per second and bits per second.

According to your configuration snippet, it seems you already have throughput evaluation licenses for 5G, 10G, and 20G. However, these licenses are in an "EULA not accepted" state. To activate these licenses for "free," you would need to accept the EULA by typping "yes" when prompted.

You would apply the desired throughput RTU license using the platform hardware throughput level command, accept the EULA, save the configuration, and then reload the device.

Best regards

Downgrade to 16.3.X and then push the router to the limit.

hi leo,

why 16.3.x?

can't i just use the current 16.9.x?

I deliberately am not going to answer that question.

All I can say is this:  Downgrade to 16.3.X and see the router can go >2.5 Gbps.
