We are building up a set of replacement Cisco ISR 4431's in the lab that are replacing some EOL equipment out in the field. We have the Cisco CAB-SS-449MT cables, which are the Cisco smart serial 10 foot 449 cables. In the previous routers, when this cable plugged into the serial port it showed as Cable type: RS-449 and connected. When we plug these cables into our ISR 4431 NIM 1-T serial port, the port and controller still show as down. Is this normal, as it is not how the other engineer remembers the live system working?
Thanks!

Hello,
the cable is the right one, the problem is likely the network clock synchronization. Try and configure the below:
1. configure terminal
2. network-clock synchronization automatic
3. controller [t1|e1] slot/bay/port
4. clock source line primary
5. network-clock input-source priority controller [t1|e1] slot/bay/port
6. exit
