Cisco Router recommendation

We recently upgraded our internet services from 100MB to 500MB. We manage the router for this connection and currently have a Cisco 2911 router for connectivity and we are unable to get more than 160MB throughput. We are wondering if we can get more out of this router or should we buy a different model router to accommodate the upgrade in bandwidth. The connections are on gigabit ethernet ports and can see that the link is show a 1 gig connection. We don't have any cir or bandwidth settings on either the WAN or LAN interfaces. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi there,

If your requirements are just throughput and keeping an eye on traffic, for 500Mb, I'd go with an ASR1001-X.

Best, Leigh

Thanks for recommendation.

It's impressive you've been able to obtain 160 Mbps throughput on a 2911.

Depending on your configuration, and your actual configurations needs, you might be able to obtain a bit more throughput, but the 2911 isn't recommended for half gig throughput volume.

For 500 Mbps (duplex), Cisco would recommend the ISR 4K series.  (The high end of the ISR 3900 series, might work for you, but don't recall Cisco even recommending the 3945E for 500 Mbps.)

Thanks for the recommendation. We are looking at the ISP providing a router with managed services, but i will look into the ISR 4K series as well.
