Hi,

I have two of this switches Cisco SG500X-24P vs Dell Networking N3048P and connections to stack them, I am trying to take a decision of  which ones I should use as the main/principal switch. I am reading the specs of both and I find difficult to choose one or the other.

Would anybody give me some advice on this, I need the best one to go to the comms room?

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

since this is a Cisco forum, you would expect that we recommend the SG500X. However, looking at the specs of both, I do not see a lot of advantage or disadvantage in choosing one or the other. The main difference seems to be that you can stack up to 12 Dell switches, for a total of 624 ports, while the Cisco can be stacked up to eight switches, for a total of 416 ports.

Other than that, if I had to choose, my main argument would be: what else do I already have ? If most of my existing equipment is Cisco, I would go for the SG500X.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I forgot to mention that as you ask, our phone system(PBX) is cisco too.

I was looking at the specs more detailed and the forwarding rate switch capacity for the dell is 193Mpps and for the Cisco is 95.24Mpps(64-byte packets). But I believe that Dell is doing the calculation for 48 ports while the Cisco is 24, which will mean that his will have a better capacity? Still confusing this calculation for me.

Regards, Oscar.
