AFAIK

Clock source line is used when you are trying to sync the clock of the line with the one provided by the ISP. Basically it tells the interface, you are to sync with the line.

Clock source internal tells the interface to provide clocking to the line rather than listen to it.

You can specify the clock rate to be provided using the same command on the appropriate interface.

Thus, an ISP would provide the clock source using the clock source internal command and a customer would sync to it using the clock source line command.

hi Arvind,

i have to connect point to point network.so on both side im configuring clock source internal hope it will work without any problm.pls send ur inputs

Binoy.

Hi Binoy,

You cannot use an internal clock source at both ends - configure one to be internal and the other to line, otherwise you will get clock slip errors.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

hi

so if i configure my H.O side controller with clock source line and all the branches with "internal" it should work without any issues, rt.

can you give some details regarding clock slip errors.

Hi Binoy,

Indeed in a point to point scenario that would work, but as is the case with most enterprise setups you are most likely using a service providers infrastructure to connect your HO to the remote offices. That being the case, clock source line should be configured on all your interfaces (both HO and RO) as the provider will be doing the clocking at his end.

What exactly does your setup look like? Are you using a provider or will you be managning the circuits yourself ?

Hi Binoy,

You will have to configure one end as clock source internal and the other as clock source line.

For a point to poitn link such as yours, on the interface where you specify clock source internal dont forget to mention the clock rate.

E.g

clock-rate 64000 (for 64kbps)

There is no other configuration requiered on the interface that you have specified clock source line on.
