Conditional Static Route / Internet HA without BGP

Anybody knows if I can insert a default static route based on the reachability of ISPs' DNS servers. No BGP. Just use simple tools as PING. The solution is not litmited to Cisco's products.

One tool that is ideal for what you require is Reliable Static routes desribed here:

It is limited to Cisco, though...
