Configure ADSL connection via Alice / Telecom Italia

Hi All

I have been trying to configure a 1921 router with a HWIC-DSLSAR module installed. the service is provided by Telecom Italia in Catania, Italy. We have been assigned a static IP address to use and will need to use PPPoE.

Have have tried so many different configs that my head is starting to hurt so does anyone out there have a working config that they could help me with?

The other problem I have is that I am in the UK and I do not have any out of band managment at the moment but I am working on that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You just need to remove "ppp authentication chap pap".

So I have got a little bit further on. I have a config and have managed to get the ADSL interface up and I can see the packet count rising both inbound and outbound. It would appear thay my problem is down to the PPP authentication, I have run some debugging and will post the output below along with the interface and dialer config.

interface ATM0/0/0
no ip address
no ip redirects
no ip unreachables
no ip proxy-arp
ip flow ingress
no atm ilmi-keepalive
pvc 8/35
  encapsulation aal5mux ppp dialer
  dialer pool-member 1

interface Dialer0
ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.0 (Static IP Provided by ISP)
ip mtu 1492
encapsulation ppp
dialer pool 1
dialer-group 1
ppp authentication chap pap
ppp chap hostname aliceadsl
ppp chap password 7 13041B1B0809052E3828
ppp pap sent-username aliceadsl password 7 082040470A1C04130107

Here is the output from the "debug ppp negotiation"

Hi Murray,

you configure the dialer interface with "ppp authentication chap pap".

This means that your router will challenge the T.I. server to authenticate.

Usually, only the CPE must provide the credentials, not the server.

With "ppp authentication chap pap" you are asking the server to provide its credentials, and the server rejects this request and close the PPP negotiation:

001112: *Mar 15 16:30:32.683 UTC: Vi2 LCP: I TERMREQ [Open] id 2 len 4     (I stands for input, i.e. this is a termination request sent by the server).

Can you remove ppp authentication and collect the debugs again?

Hope this helps

Marco

All of this?

ppp authentication chap pap
ppp chap hostname aliceadsl
ppp chap password 7 13041B1B0809052E3828
ppp pap sent-username aliceadsl password 7 082040470A1C04130107

Or just,

ppp authentication chap pap

Murray

You just need to remove "ppp authentication chap pap".
