Hi,
POS, is a communications protocol for transmitting packets in the form of the Point to Point Protocol over SDH or SONET (Physical layer). Packet Over SONET/SDH (PoS) maps IP datagrams into the SONET frame payload using Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP).
Both SDH and SONET are widely used today: SONET in the U.S. and Canada and SDH in the rest of the world. Although the SONET standards were developed before SDH, their relative penetrations in the worldwide market dictate that SONET now be considered the variation.

Hi
You can refer to the protocol level details in the RFC for "PPP over SONET/SDH". RFC 2615.
