Differece between Input/output & Preferred- TELNET

Hi, what is the difference between Input/output and Preferred tab in Line VTY 0 4

input->>Define which protocols to use when connecting to the terminal server

output->> Define which protocols to use for outgoing connections

preferred->> Specify the preferred protocol to use

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is the most widely implemented protocol suite on networks of all media types. Terminal services provide terminal-to-host connectivity with virtual terminal protocols, including Telnet, LAT, TN3270, and rlogin. Modems can be set up for rotary connections.
