Why do we use DSU bandwidth on interface ? .

I got a request to change DSU bandwidth on WAN interface  from its default to some value. But when i changed the value on WAN interface the link went down .

Again i had to login via Modem and revert the settings to  up the circuit .

Can anybody tell if that value has to match at service provider also ? 

Answers will be helpful for me to resolve the case :) .

DSU bandwidth is quite different from normal interface bandwidth and is only used on certain interface connections. When used the DSU bandwidth does change the operation of the interface controller/modem interface and does need to match the setting of the provider.
